EquiShure® is a unique supplement shown to help to maintain a normal pH in the horse’s hindgut, particularly in horses receiving diets with a high cereal inclusion.

EquiShure® acts as a time-released hindgut buffer, by supplying an encapsulated source of sodium bicarbonate to the colon and caecum. EquiShure® can be used to help maintain a normal pH during the intense periods of a stressful competitive season, or when travelling, or at any time when there is a greater reliance on high starch and cereal diets without adequate levels of forage. At-risk horses often express one or more signs that can reduce athletic performance, growth or reproductive potential, such as loss of appetite, digestive discomfort, wood chewing and other stereotypies, with concomitant loss of performance.

EquiShure® is produced by the Kentucky Equine Research Center. This scientific organisation was founded in 1988 by Dr. Joe Pagan and is known worldwide as an independent consultant for feed manufacturers. As a result, all KER products are unique, progressive feeds based on formulas that take into account the scientifically proven nutritional needs of horses.

Suitable for

  • Horses on high-cereal diets, or grazing lush pasture
  • Horses with a poor appetite, decreased feed intake or weight loss
  • Horses with loose droppings that may be strong smelling
  • Horses with unexplainable behavioural problems, such as wood chewing, weaving or box walking

Combine EquiShure® with your regular concentrate feed. Feed 30 to 180 grams per day, depending on your horse's size and risk level. Use the table below to derive the recommended daily amount based on grain intake, forage and weight. Divide the amount of EquiShure® over several meals for best results. 

Low to medium grain intake

  • Mainly hay: 30 g (300 kg body weight) | 50 g (500 kg body weight) | 60 g (600 kg body weight)
  • Mainly grass: 60 g (300 kg bodyweight) | 100 g (500 kg bodyweight) | 120 g (600 kg bodyweight)

Medium to high grain intake

  • Mainly hay: 60 g (300 kg body weight) | 100 g (500 kg body weight) | 120 g (600 kg body weight)
  • Mainly grass: 90 g (300 kg body weight) | 150 g (500 kg body weight) | 180 g (600 kg body weight)
